I'm Christina Shaw, candidate for Stow City Council Ward 3 in the Nov. 7, 2017, election.
Like you, I've been frustrated with how government at every level has at times become unresponsive to the needs of its citizens. I've thought about running for Stow City Council for many years, and I finally decided it was time to do something about that.
I'm a lifelong Stow resident. I grew up here, graduated from Stow-Munroe Falls High School (Class of 1988) and spent much of my career here. I'm also a cancer survivor (read more about it here), and have come out of that struggle a better person, determined to use my renewed energies to give back to my community.
We have a great city, but we have our challenges too. Like many other communities, Stow is in the throes of a terrible opioid crisis, one that will require a great deal of commitment and heart to develop a network of programs for prevention, treatment and support of victims' families.
I want our city to have sound infrastructure and services, plus great amenities for our families: great schools, parks and family-friendly activities.
I want Stow to be a city of growth, desirable for new businesses and families, with investments into our future that improve our residents' quality of life and the values of our homes.
And, I want to foster a reputation for Stow as a welcoming community for every family, with respect for the diversity of our faces, religions and ideas.
Finally, I want to be part of a City Council that is accountable to its citizens. To that end, my pledge to you is to be accessible to hear your concerns for our city. If you have taken the time to share with me the issues that concern you and our city, I will respond to your phone calls or emails within 24 hours.
After all, as your Ward 3 City Council Representative, I will work for you.
